Alli Butler is a singer and comedian who woke up the other day and found out she was 40.
‘40 Year Old Pop Star’ tells the story of a mum who leaves her job as the Sydney Opera House nurse, where she attends to international superstars who have headaches, and returns to the tiny country town where she was born, to pursue her pop career.Once arrived in this Wheatbelt town, which is more or less in the middle of nowhere, she acquires a few headaches of her own: like where is an audience that is not comprised of cows? How is she going to buy milk on a Sunday when all the shops are closed? Do you drink the champagne that is passed around at 11am at play group?
In this one hour tour de force of original stories and songs, Alli Butler a stand-up comedian, singer-songwriter, nurse and 40 year old mum who refuses to inject her face with Botox (this week), gives a hilarious self-portrait of her trajectory towards stardom among the sheep, cows and canola.
Alli Butler’s music has seen her support artists such as Sarah McLeod and Bertie Blackman and her song ‘Fire in my Heart’ was recently a semi-finalist in the Unsigned Only music competition. Her stand-up comedy has taken her from one side of Australia to the other, including performing at The Comedy Store in Sydney. ’40 Year Old Popstar’ is on at The York Palace Hotel on Sat the 5th of October, 7.30pm.
