“If you’re a man researching feminism, if you’re a white person researching race, if you’re only watching movies with people that look like you in it – you need to kind of branch out. And that’s where it’s like, as an artist we have this deep responsibility and we have to kind of look at what we’re looking at.” – Alex The Astronaut
Jack River today reveals the second last episode of the Sounds of Change series of To Rebel In The Times podcast with the wonderful Alex The Astronaut for Episode 5. On this week’s episode, the two artists discuss everything from politics, sexuality, human impact, music and the importance of finding authenticity in a very public world.
Following a scholarship studying maths and physics at Long Island University, Alex The Astronaut released her first single ‘Already Home’ at age 21 – the song going on to become the unofficial anthem for marriage equality in Australia. Her music cleverly calls out the wrongs of society, bravely shining a spotlight on issues that she strongly believes deserve to be noticed.
Episode 5 is an incredibly insightful look into the marvellous mind of one of Australian music’s most intriguing and important voices. Listen to Alex The Astronaut and Jack River on To Rebel In The Times here now.
