ASTOUNDING WOMEN OF VALOUR
FRINGE WORLD FESTIVAL 2020
RUBIX BAR, 11 JANUARY TO 8 FEBRUARY
Set against a gold velvet back drop, Astounding Women of Valour begins with the story of Mary Ann Bugg, an Indigenous Australian bush ranger, mother to 15 and wife of Captain Thunderbolt. It then leads into tales of traveling trailblazers, pioneers in politics, education and women who have greatly influenced our country and the world on a global scale. The show format is one of interchanging story tellers; Natalie de Rozario, Diana Pekic, Keely Baker and Bronwyn McDougall. Each woman has a unique approach to storytelling as the audience is taken on a journey ranging from tragedy to triumph. McDougall brings an added flavour as she selects a volunteer from the audience who she sees as someone with the gift of second-sight. Intriguing stage magic to be seen! I still can’t work out how they did it.
This show is in its second year, sharing stories of women who have shaped and changed history through blood, sweat, toil and tears. These are the stories that have often been forgotten, written out of history or simply attributed to a footnote in another story.
This show does not fail to deliver tales of unknown women’s achievements, golden stories and thought-provoking facts that will stay with you. Do yourself a favour, and go and see Astounding Women of Valour.
Astounding Women of Valour Runs from the 17 January to 8 February 2020 as a part of Fringe Festival Perth at the Rubix Bar, 334 Murray Street, Perth. Tickets are available here.
