Set in the function room of the Belgian Beer Café, audience members exit the hustle and bustle of the pub to enter a quiet and dimly lit room. In the room are two tables that are covered in a vast array of objects. Standing amongst the artifacts is a man clad in all black. This can only be Frater XV and his show, Cabaret of Curiosities.
The show begins, Frater XV warmly welcomes audience members and explains how the show works. Around him are objects across time and vast lands, he invites an audience member to choose an object, and he will tell them about its origin and use. The collection of objects is something to behold, for anyone interested in the macabre it is a must see. The items range from séance artifacts, voodoo dolls, potions, letters from Jack the Ripper and more. What makes this show so addictive (I have been three years in a row) is that each object has a unique tale that Frater XV will tell.
Every show is different.
Frater XV has an encyclopedic knowledge of every item in his possession, this doesn’t stop him from making jokes or even trying some of them out on audience members. I myself had a connection to a voodoo doll we shall not speak of again. It is truly a unique experience and special to the Perth Fringe World scene. I highly recommend this experience next time you are so lucky as to have the opportunity!
