While on tour in Australia recently, multi-award-winning Ugandan artist, Jose Mayanja, aka Jose Chameleone – commonly known as The Doctor – dropped a new video for his Afrobeat track, Mshamba, recently released via his Leone Island Music Empire label.
Singing in a mix of Swahili and English, the beautiful sounds and melody have the potential to take you away on a journey, even without understanding the words.
On releasing the video Chameleone explained that the song is the “story of a man who yearns for love from a woman that comes from a different background to him,” something that perhaps many of us in multicultural Australia can relate to. Directed by award-winning Brazilian-born/Miami-based director/photographer, Jordan Hoechlin, the video’s mesmerising slow-moving notions, colours and concepts blend beautifully with the song.
Having just completed a tour of Australia, where he performed in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart, Chameleone is already on his way to Dubai for his next performance on September 9. A gruelling schedule lies ahead, covering Germany, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Belgium and Turkey. No doubt a similar response to the one he received here in Australia awaits.
