Cheap Trick
Cheap Trick

If you haven’t heard of Cheap Trick, the fact that they are about to release their 20th studio album should trigger some interest if even just a little right?

…these guys are full steam ahead and show no signs of slowing down whatsoever.

There are few international bands that could rival these hard working fellas from Rockford Illinois in the US. With the huge hits they’ve produced over the last 47 years and the international success they have had prove their music and bond have stood the test of time.

Their latest album, In Another World, released 9 April, is a testament to their faithful Rock ’N’ Roll roots and the first song ‘Boys & Girls & Rock N Roll’ has all the weaponry you’d expect of this four piece. With catchy, hooky riffs from axe shredder and co founder, Rick Nielson, the unmistakable voice of Robin Zander, the cheeky lyrics and the energy to rival some of the hardest rockers out there, these guys are full steam ahead and show no signs of slowing down whatsoever.

Second song and my personal favourite, a song you’ve got to hear, is ‘Light up the fire’. It has everything we long for in a classic rock song. With a convincing wall of sound of guitars, it has a killer melody and let’s not forget these lyrics, And if you’re looking for heaven or one hell of a time. This song is just music to my ears and pretty much sums up the whole vibe of the album. These guys are ageing like a fine wine but stay true to themselves and their 47-year music career with an impressive 20th studio album that is a punch to the face!

Heartfelt ballad, ‘Passing Through’, brings a more sombre tone to the album as it hits the feels of an ending relationship with honesty and conviction. It’s is a nice come down before being brought up again with ‘Here’s Looking At You’ which includes an amazing lead break from Rick Nielson. This is another song of heartbreak but with a little more sting in the lyrics and more energy driven.

I grew up listening to the likes of ‘Surrender’, ‘I Want You To Want Me’, ‘The Flame’ and ‘Ghost Town’, favourites off the Dream Police album, which actually dropped on the very same day I was born. And I’ll never forget the lead single from Cheap Trick’s 11th album, ‘Can’t Stop Falling In Love.’ They’ve had 64 singles, 17 compilation albums and after 47 years they are stronger than ever!

Do yourselves a favour and listen to ’In another World’ it’s a reminder of where this band has come from and where they keep on heading to in their long career.
