END OF FASHION ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE AND WA DATES

WA faves End Of Fashion are set to release a brand-new single, Ruby Lips, on August 13 and will celebrate with a run of shows in September.

For singer/songwriter/guitarist, Justin Burford, the song is a tip of the hat to End Of Fashion’s early days, in terms of both energy and influences.

Ruby Lips is a really good example of us taking our influences that were relevant to us way back then, The Beatles and Queen and all those bands, they’ve kind of come back around again,” he says. “I like to think that we’ve updated the sound a little bit and see Ruby Lips as coming from the same family as She’s Love and Too Careful, those rockers that had swagger. That old End Of Fashion swagger.”

Lyrically, Ruby Lips is a ponderance on the kind of toxic entitlement that we all too often see online, but also how it plays out personally.

“A lot of people are seeing and experiencing this kind of toxicity and observing this kind of entitlement,” Burford says. “This song for me is about when it’s placed at your feet, and it starts being personal. When it stops being general, arbitrary, and conceptual, and starts to actually become a personal thing.”

Recorded at Pavement Studios with Lance Robinson and mixed by Andy Lawson,

Ruby Lips is the first of a string of single releases that End Of Fashion will unveil over the next six-to-12-months.

“As we carry on through, I think people will see more and more the evolution the band is taking,” Burford says, “and the direction that’s more in line with where we’re at now.”

With bassist Vanessa Thornton (also of Jebediah) back in the band after 17 years, End Of Fashion is well and truly ready to roll into 2022. As Burford says, “COVID is what happens when you’re busy making other plans,” but the band are committed to playing as many shows as is possible here in WA, then when borders allow, in the Eastern States.

End Of Fashion will launch Ruby Lips in WA with three shows with old friends Thirsty Merc in August, followed by a trio of headline dates.
