Based on my own experience, I would have to say that sitting in front of a blank screen trying start writing a job application is one of the most challenging tasks imaginable.

Then, you need to rummage through the highlights of your career trying to work out how to make the best representation of your professional achievements in only three pages.
On top of that, there’s the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. How can you best demonstrate your practice in relation to the Domains and Standards?
Of course, you also need to tailor your application to the school you’re applying to, showing how you would be a good fit based on the school’s plans and reports on student achievement.

Hello, my name is Andrea Thompson. As well as having been a primary teacher, I’ve also worked at the Department of Education for a good part of my career, where I held the positions of Director and Executive Director, amongst others. I have a Masters degree in education and I’ve written more than my fair share of job applications. Over the last 10 years or so I’ve shifted the focus of my own career, working in the music industry as a journalist, manager and event promoter. I’ve also turned my hand to fiction writing and recently had a novel accepted for publication by Fremantle Press. Writing is in my blood.
I have a good understanding of the education context and the job application process. I was one of a team of people contracted to write portions of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and still have an excellent understanding of the operations of schools and education more broadly.
