The Hunting Birds launch their new EP, In Its Nature, with two WA shows on 27 October and 2 November.
The Hunting Birds are a contradiction of the best kind. Darkness meets light in the band’s enchanting fusion of genres – and they’re stepping it up a notch with their forthcoming debut EP In Its Nature.
Since forming in 2015, the Western Australian five-piece have been gigging hard in their hometown of Perth, as well as appearing at major festivals including Falls Festival Downtown and Bluesfest Byron Bay, plus support slots with folk heavyweights The Lumineers and English singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner.
Led by lead vocalists Kendra Fewster and Connor Minervini, the group’s sound is an intoxicating mix of folk, rock, pop and blues – incorporating the elements of each but unable to be labelled as one or the other.
Fewster and Minervini’s vocals soar above the well-oiled musicianship of lead guitarist Chris Mackenzie, bassist Gwyneth Gardiner and drummer Brad Forbes who move effortlessly from dark and dirty rock to warm, melodic pop. Electric guitars and crashing drums contrast with the warmth of acoustic guitars, sugary vocals and melodic keys.
Their 2015 debut single From the Ashes introduced us to a band whose striking vocal harmonies and beautiful lyrics are backed up with serious musical chops. Subsequent releases State of Mind and Burn This House Down showcased the band’s vast range of musical styles.
The Hunting Birds’ latest EP In Its Nature represents the band growing up, finding its groove and leaning into its identity.
Working with WAM Award-winning engineer Andy Lawson and in-demand producer Joel Quartermain (Meg Mac, Dan Sultan), the group have created a debut EP they’re immensely proud of, and are now excited to announce its release and a pair of WA launch dates to celebrate!
Thanks to this trademark diversity of sound, In Its Nature is a journey that will take you in many directions, only to bring you right back home with its warmth and honesty.
