JAKE ‘THE SNAKE’ ROBERTS – AMPLIFIER BAR

JAKE ‘THE SNAKE’ ROBERTS
“DIRTY DETAILS” TOUR
AMPLIFIER BAR

13 February

I’ve been a huge pro wrestling fan for many years now. The obsession started in 1998, but unfortunately the wrestling I remember and loved is now completely different to what it used to be. Some people still love it, for me, it’s no longer a ‘thinking mans’ form of entertainment. With that being said, my interest in pro wrestling today has been more about watching the old stuff and learning about the history and past of what was once a great performance art and sport.

One man that has a million and one stories from the cautionary tale that is his life is one and only – Jake “The Snake” Roberts. He’s a legend from the 80s and 90s – and a WWE Hall of Famer. How could I pass up the opportunity to check out Jakes one man show ‘Dirty Details’ at the Amplifier Bar?

From the moment he got on staged and cut off our applause and adoration with laughter and a “Fuck offff” I knew this was going to be a cracking show. Jake was hilarious from start to finish, telling road stories, prank stories, and personal stories from his career in the pro wrestling business. It seemed like he could just rattle off any and every story you could think of – somebody shouted out Andre The Giants name and he immediately jumped into an Andre story! Jake was witty and not so charming – the way he’s always been known to be.

Typical Jake fashion, posing with some fans in the only way you’d expect.

He speaks a lot of the likes of King Kong Bundy, Andre The Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage, Ric Flair, and he still hates The Honkey Tonk Man! I’m not going to give you any of the details of this show because it’s up to you to check it out yourself, when you review a show like this, you can’t exactly repeat what the man himself said because then you already know the stories. It’s better if you hear it from the horses Snakes mouth.

If you’re a fan of the history of pro wrestling, Jake Roberts ‘Dirty Details’ (seriously, it gets dirty) is definitely the show for you. If you haven’t seen the documentary about Jake, it’s called “The Resurrection of Jake The Snake”. Even if you’re not a wrestling fan, that documentary will pull at your heart strings. I am very happy the man is clean and sober, and happy as can be living his new life. Thanks Jake for a fantastic evening!
