KARNIVOOL – BADLANDS

This was a night i’d really been looking forward to as I’ve been a big fan of Karnivool since the early days and the night was about to heat up pretty quick with MAGE.

This powerhouse three-piece were amazing, with some heavy riffage, great songs and killer harmonies, with their lead singer reminding me at times of Daniel Johns in his earlier years. These lads are definitely a band to look out for!

Next up were Black Stone From The Sun who quite literally melted my face off from the strike of the first chord, they were the fastest and heaviest two piece i’ve seen out of Perth yet! These two are not to taken lightly. They had massive on stage energy and Jack Nelson is an insanely good drummer who was hard to take eyes off throughout the set. They’ve played support to a quite a few well named acts including Birds of Tokyo and a Dog day afternoon festival with Abbe May, New Talk, The Love Junkies and more. My fave stand out track from these guys was Butterflies. It was pretty epic!

Finally, the anticipation was over! Karnivool kicked the night off with Shutter Speed off Themata, ‘All I Know’ From Sound Awake, We Are, Refusal, Aeons, Simple Boy.. I had perfect view directly from off stage so I got to see the mosh pit in all of it’s glory, everyone including myself singing every word to every song.

These were die hard Vool fans. (Again myself included) Ian Kenny was sounding bloody brilliant and had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. Goddard had me transfixed as did Stockman and Hosking while Judd kept everything pulled tight from back of stage.

They finished off the set with absolute crackers, ‘Roquefort’, ‘Cote’, ‘Dead Man’, ‘Themata’ and ‘New Day’ – all my favorites. Shit was getting real in the crowd by the end of the set!

Badlands was the perfect Venue for Karnivool and they were just incredible to see perform there. Hats off to the promoter as this was an awesome night!! I for one can’t wait to see them again!
