Winner of eight Academy Awards including the big gong Best Picture, as well as Best Actor, Director and Adapted Screenplay, Amadeus is a screen triumph and a feast for the eyes and ears. A sumptuous, epic, period movie, and a soaring celebration of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
CEO and Artistic Director of Perth Symphony Orchestra, Bourby Webster said, this special event as part of our 10th anniversary program, features our Perth Symphony Orchestra performing the score of the movie along with the fabulous Phillips Chorale.
“Other than being an incredible movie, visually and musically, as well as a perfect match for our extraordinary orchestra, Amadeus has, for the longest time been really difficult to get your hands on to watch at home, so it’s a real treat for us to be able to put this event on for a very lucky Perth audience.
The evening’s theme is very much in keeping with the colour and theatrics of Mozart himself and the era in which he lived – the 17th century. Our orchestra will be dressed in glorious period costumes with flickering candelabra setting the mood, this is a cinematic and concert experience like no other. We’re excited to present this enthralling, three-hour movie experience, with interval, at Crown Theatre, a one-time only event and an evening not to be missed.,” Ms Webster said.
The story of Amadeus is told from the point of view of Viennese court composer, Antonio Salieri, and the jealousy which consumes him when he discovers the divine musical gifts, he has longed for all his life, but which has in fact, been bestowed upon a vulgar, bawdy young composer – Mozart. Consumed with envy Salieri plots to destroy Mozart while unable to tear himself away from the genius of the man and his music.
Perth Symphony Orchestra is proud to present this special event at Crown Theatre.
