Paying homage to one of the bestselling, enigmatic music artists of all time, who performed his very last show in our city, Perth, before he left the world in tears of purple rain – Perth Symphony Orchestra presents Nothing Compares: The Music of Prince.
Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, dancer, actor, and director, Prince was and is an icon. One of the world’s most unique and gifted artist’s work is to receive Perth Symphony’s compelling orchestral treatment as part of a series of concerts celebrating 10 years as, ‘the Orchestra that breaks the rules’ – just like Prince…in all the best ways. Ranging from soul to disco, psychedelia to classical, Prince’s eclectic and innovative works spanned a multitude of styles. Experimenting with sound, he was so ahead of his peers, Prince pioneered genres that were yet to be named.
CEO and Artistic Director of Perth Symphony Orchestra, Bourby Webster said, known for extraordinary performances celebrating some of the world’s most loved contemporary music in an incredibly rich, emotional and expansive way, our Orchestra will take the audience on a symphonic exploration of the music of Prince, with which nothing compares.
”Featuring our stunning musicians this performance also includes fabulous guest vocalists – Hans Fiance, Ali Bodycoat, Sam Nafie and Amy Reeves performing arrangements by Simon Kruit, Rebecca Erin Smith and Kate Milligan in a continuous 90-minute set,” Ms Webster said.
A true celebration of the undeniable musical talent, legacy and persona that was Prince, it is produced and performed entirely by Western Australian talent, on an epic scale.
