ATS Issue 32 Cover
ATS Issue 32 Cover

2019 has been a big year!  We can hear you now, “Tell us something we don’t already know!”  Yes, OK, well we thought we’d run through a few of the statistics and highlights of the year, just in case you haven’t been reading along.

Counting our first edition on 20 December last year, with Abbe May on the cover, we’ve produced 33 issues of Around The Sound this year.

At the end of March, we switched from weekly to fortnightly production because it’s a bloody big task and we wanted to make sure that our families saw us once in a while!

Over the 32 editions we’ve given coverage to almost 250 local artists and 50 national and international artists and we’ve backed up our print edition with more than 1,000 in-depth articles and reviews on our website.

We live and breathe local music and have a dedicated team of writers who are out in venues every week talking to bands and artists, reviewing shows and getting in amongst it.  If you cut us, we bleed local music.

We love what we do, we love the WA music scene and we want to get the word out to as many people as we can.  Our goal is to help bring an additional 10,000 people a month into venues to see local live music.  As well as publishing Around The Sound we’re also doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work to try to make that happen.  We want our local musicians to be able to make a living from their art and we believe that making our scene more visible is one way of achieving that goal.

Of course, we couldn’t have done what we’ve done in 2019 without the help of our advertisers.  We’re very appreciative of the support of Otherside Brewery and Freo.Social, which have adorned our front page for every edition.  We appreciate the support of regular advertisers, Superfreak Studios and Sorrento Strategic, two organisations that do an enormous amount to champion local music.  We’ve also had ongoing support from RTRFM and, in the last quarter of 2019 from Little Creatures and Mega Music.  Along the way, we’ve had advertising from national and international promoters and local bands alike.

We’re grateful to all of you who have believed in what we’re doing enough to spend some of your money with us.  Doing what we do doesn’t come cheap, so we respect and adore everyone who has done business with us.

Thank you!

We will be taking a break over Christmas and January.  The next print edition of Around The Sound magazine is due out on 13 February.  In the interim, we’ll still be publishing plenty of content on our website and keeping our socials updated, so keep watching this space.

With our love at Christmas.  Stay safe, be happy and see you in 2020.

The Around The Sound family.
