After two years across the West Australian gig circuit, a debut EP and an Australian national tour, Scarlet Drive are back and with a bold new sound behind them. Deviating slightly from their staple blend of punk, funk and reggae, the group has begun to explore new sonic territory pushing the indie pop and punk binary.
Consisting of Michael ‘Milli’ Millimaci on Vocals, Michael ‘Barry’ Madafferi on LeadGuitar and Maddey ‘Pocket-Rocket’ Eccleston on Bass, the band has spent early 2019 in-between studios, putting the finishing touches on their new nostalgic blend.‘I Just Think That You’re Cute’ is the first taste of this new offering; a rhythmic bop withtongue-in-cheek lyrics that narrow the song-writing scope to the personal. Filled with literary references to iconic romance novels, the song pokes fun at relationships with very little beneath the surface of attraction.
Although the track initially began in February, it underwent an arduous development process across many months and studios until finally after many long nights producing the song today. A launch was held at Lucy’s Love Shack inMay, to spotlight the forthcoming release.
Having kicked off the year with a WAM Award nomination for Most Popular New Act and taking out #7 and #13 of the 89.7FM WA Top 20 with singles ‘Ceto’ and ‘Sad Robot’, the band have already begun preparing an onslaught of new releases for the second half of 2019.
