Introducing themselves with disco flair, Perth’s Supathick lay it down with their debut single, ‘I’m There’. Featuring the glossy vocals of Dulcie’s Saskia Brittain, the group’s first offering comes executed with an easy going nature and instant charm.

Formed in 2018, Supathick brings a diverse range of musical influences to the table. With the members having years of experience as writers and performers in other projects between them (Demon Days, Wooly Mammoth, Grace Armstrong, Almond Soy), this new project is a funk-fuelled beast all its own. With ‘I’m There’, Supathick introduces themselves to listeners as a band to keep an eye on as 2020 rolls out.
In a similar vein of Australian revellers including Thunderfox, to international artists like Tom Misch and Parcels, Supathick layer sounds from decades gone by with contemporary freshness and production edge. As ‘I’m There’ shows. The dynamism of the track is a clear indicator of how well sessions have brought the band together as a unit and as a result, how tight their sound is.
“Supathick has been a long time coming since the idea was first conceived,” said songwriter and guitarist Christian Zappia, “and listening to the tracks instantly takes me back to recording guitars at Jack Seah’s house two summers ago. This band is made up entirely of my best mates, and being close with the girls from Dulcie led to Saskia jumping in on this track – which honestly took it to the next level.”
Recorded at Jack Seah Studios (Demon Days, Noah Dillon) and mixed/mastered by Sam Ford at Tone City Recordings (Abbe May, POND), ‘I’m There’ came together naturally, with Zappia finding direction in sound and a home for his burgeoning ideas with Supathick’s formation. Together, the band works effectively, pouring ideas into each session and working them through together. “When I first heard Tom Misch, I knew it was the perfect jumping off point,” Zappia said, “coupled with getting right back into Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as Chic and Nile Rodgers. Dance music just made sense, and Disco was even better.”
2020 is set to be a big year for Supathick. Get onboard and let them show you what they’re made of now.
‘I’m There’ is released worldwide on Thursday 13 February.
