SURF CURSE SHARE NEW SINGLE + VIDEO FOR ‘MIDNIGHT COWBOY’
TAKEN FROM NEW ALBUM, HEAVEN SURROUNDS YOU, OUT SEPT 13 ON DANGER COLLECTIVE
Los Angeles duo Surf Curse — comprised of Nick Rattigan and Jacob Rubeck — are revealing another look at their forthcoming album, Heaven Surrounds You, in the form of a sugar-coated song called ‘Midnight Cowboy‘. The new single is accompanied by avideo, which was inspired by the film of the same title. Directed by Nick and staring Jacob, the clip depicts the love story of a Las Vegas night worker who’s love was simply too good for his city.
“I knew when I wrote the song Midnight Cowboy, that the music video had to be filmed in Las Vegas. Everything about the movie (Midnight Cowboy) is about the environment. To me Las Vegas is another city where people come for the magic but end wanting to escape. I was so lucky to have Nick (of Surf Curse) film everything because I just trust the way he shoots things and it just felt like another collaboration between us where we fed off each other.” Says Jacob.
‘Midnight Cowboy‘ follows the addictive, glossy first single ‘Disco‘ (and video, also directed by Jacob) and is the second taste off the bands forthcoming album Heaven Surrounds You, which is set to be released on September 13th via Danger Collective Records.
Produced by Jarvis Taveniere (Sunflower Bean, Woods), Heaven Surrounds You is a coming-of-age epic, inspired by the many cult films the band cherished throughout their formative years spent in Reno, Las Vegas, and finally LA. The album – an indie pop gem full of spangled guitars and echo chamber harmonies – is lush and vulnerable, a massive step forward for the band, who have become one of Los Angeles’s most exciting new artists, already amassing over 30 million streams worldwide.
Already selling out venues across the US, Surf Curse have very quickly amassed a fervent, die-hard following and reputation as one of the best live bands playing in LA right now. Emerging from DIY venue The Smell at the front of LA’s exploding new indie rock scene — coming up alongside artists such as Girlpool, Lala Lala, Slow Hollows, and more. Surf Curse’s live shows have become a rite of passage for teen music lovers across the globe.
