The Money War’s years of globetrotting have profoundly affected both the lives and the music of its founding members Carmen Pepper and Dylan Ollivierre. Their forthcoming EP, Life Is Better In Dreams, is inspired by such travels – owing itself to the beauty of Olliverre’s ancestral home of Bequia, and the sheer wonder of New York’s eternal metropolis. Juxtaposing the serenity of a Caribbean Island with the greatest city ever built, The Money War have distilled their troubadour lifestyle into a joyous musical ride fuelled by nostalgia.
Following on from the heartwarming EP title track, new single ‘We’re Alright‘ is The Money War at their jangly best. Ollivierre explains, “While Life Is Better in Dreams literally came to me in a dream and had a surreal sort of wonderment to it, We’re Alright is a more direct but reassuring song about sticking together through the hard times and troubling confusion. I think a lot of people, myself included, are struggling to figure out where they fit in the world. It really feels like it’s a strange time to be alive.”
It is hardly surprising that The Money War have been able to create such glorious music based on their travels though… the band was, after all, formed by Ollivierre and Pepper while on a US road trip. This set the pace for all that was to come – from receiving airplay in Europe, America and Australia, to playing coveted spots at SXSW, Southbound and
Festival Of The Sun, to touring with MegMac, DopeLemon, HolyHoly
and NeilFinn (who personally selected The Money War after being impressed by their songwriting). The band will be hitting the road once again with national dates through August and September, including slots at Brisbane’s celebrated Bigsound.
Acclaim has followed the band, whose debut album Home was released to widespread love from both the music press and music fans. Amassing over a million streams on Spotify, their songs have resonated in a way the duo only dreamed of. Now, with Life Is Better In Dreams,The Money War continue to evolve as songwriters by delving further into their own souls. Whether inspired by dreams or real events, the songs of Carmen Pepper and Dylan Ollivierre are deeply personal, yet serve as an invitation for everyone to share these experiences as the band take you halfway across the world and back.
