Violet Orange make masks with Around The Sound’s film maker at large, Bridey Eggleton. Read on for the Around The Sound interview.
Violet Orange are fresh to the Perth music scene. The female-fronted four piece band are bringing smooth harmonies and occasional psychedelic background sounds to their original pieces.
With influences such as Ocean Alley, Great Gable, Soul drop and Dulcie, the band uses multiple groovy effects and violet dreamy chord progressions to provide the unique ‘Violet Orange’ sound.
Michaela Francis and Danielle Foote the two lead vocals of the band, who are both currently studying music at North Metropolitan TAFE, also lead the song writing process for the local group.
Starting with lyrics, or a lyrical idea they then build some chords or a melody to accompany the, the pair switch who writes the lyrics and sings them.
“If we are ever in a writing slump, we will sit down together and do writing exercises, then come together and use the best pieces to create a working story and song.”
When it comes to the Perth music scene they find themselves flooded with local talent, with a large influence their sound found from Perth bands.
“We have probably all been to the most Spacey Jane shows. Those guys rock! Roobs and the Washing Line Economy – we have played with them previously and they are great guys, and of course their music is amazing!”
In their down time the four can’t seem to escape music, but when they aren’t studying it they are usually doing a movie date together, the last was Avengers, the next is The Lion King.
Violet Orange are working their way into the Perth music scene by gigging as much as they can and making contacts throughout the scene.
“But we have a lot of exciting things coming up soon, more music releases and just trying to gain as much exposure as we can by being proactive.”
They exclusively let Around the Sound know that we should expect a new single in the next two months, inspired by Francis’ boyfriend’s freshly shaved face.
Make sure you get to a gig and grab a slice, because this is one tasty orange.
