In my darker moments, I wonder why anyone would want to be part of one of society’s smallest and most oppressed minorities. Of course, being trans is not a choice, but coming out to the world is. Well, kind of, because there comes a time when hiding from yourself and the world is not an option. The choices are literally reduced to death or glory. In the end I chose glory, but I’m keenly aware that so many of my fellow trans and gender diverse humans remain in hiding and some feel like they have no option but to annihilate their existences in one way or another.
It is going to be the party to end all parties!
All of that is a heavy load to bear.
My personal way of dealing with the overhead that goes with being trans is to be visible and to take as much advantage of my minority status as I can.
That’s what Queer Arts Alliance and our In A Gay Way events are all about. Living it large in the public eye by throwing the biggest parties possible and inviting the whole world to come and enjoy the best LGBTQIA+ artists and performers the world has to offer.
This time we have Alter Boy, Cecilia, Little Axe, Melanie Flynn and DJ Checkout Chick at the Rechabite on 12 November.
It is going to be the party to end all parties!
And, while we make everyone feel welcome, our events are safe and inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ people.
This time last year at the Rechabite people had a blast and this year’s event is going to be even bigger and better.
If you haven’t got your tickets yet, you can buy them here.
In A Gay Way 2 is straight after Pride Fair Day, so march on down William Street from Hyde Park and keep the party going.
QUEER ARTS ALLIANCE
Queer Arts Alliance is a not-for-profit organisation created to nurture and support the development of queer artists across all arts forms including music, literature, poetry, visual arts, crafts and media.
Queer Arts Alliance achieves this by providing safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ identifying people to develop their creativity, engage with other creatives and access performance and publishing opportunities. Queer Arts Alliance also stages events that showcase the talents of LGBTQIA+ creatives.
In 2024 we will begin fundraising to help us put on even bigger events; provide opportunities for LGBTQIA+ people to get involved in the arts at the grass roots level; and support the careers of LGBTQIA+ artists.
